PPHI Sindh Jamshoro saves another malnutritioned child

PPHI Jamshoro (PINS ER-II, DJ): Baby Muqadus D/O Mr. Imtiaz aged 10 months was referred by OTP Site of BHU Plus Khudabad of District Dadu to Nutrition Stabilization Centre @ Syed Abdullah Shah Institute of Medical Science Taluka Sehwan District Jamshoro on 30th September 2021 through PPHI Free Ambulance Service of District Dadu. The child came with complaints of Temperature, no weight gain, SD scores less than <-3SD, mild dehydration, poor appetite, Diarrhea, and MUAC 10.2 cm, severely wasted.

On enrollment at SASIMS, the child started its stabilization phase getting antibiotics and F-75 feeds as per guideline. Baby Muquadus was regularly supervised until the active complaints were removed. The drugs used were D drops, Inj Gentamicin, Inj Ampicillin, Sup Zink, Tab Folic Acid, Vit A 100000 IU, etc as according to Critical Care Pathway (CCP) Form. Though caretakers were less cooperative, the proactive approach and struggle by Nutrition Stabilization Centre's staff recovered the child by subsiding their active complaints. The technical team started the 12 feed protocol without Oedema. The initial feed volume remained 720 ml. The respiratory rate and breathing rate of the child were repeatedly monitored and remained normal. The nature of Diarrhea was moderate and recovered early.

Currently, the child is stable and under the Discharge phase from NSC SASIMS Sehwan. She will be transferred to OTP Site @ BHU Plus Khudabad of District Dadu to be re-enrolled in OTP for further rehabilitation to get rid of malnutrition.

Nutrition Stabilization Centre staff as per routine had sensitized caretakers about health hygiene and complementary diet for the child also.
