PPHI Sindh prepares for COVID-19

Mr. Zakir Hussain Samo, PPHI Sindh District Nutrition Coordinator, Matiari, for European Union in Pakistan funded-Programme for Improved Nutrition In Sindh (EU-PINS) did an online session for the staff demonstrating how to put on, remove and dispose of the surgical mask, and re-wash the gown in 40 degrees heat in a washing machine or soak it for at least five minutes in 0.05% chlorine solution.

PPHI Sindh has ensured that all its frontline staff is following strict precautionary measures to curb the spread of COVID-19. Similarly, Personal Protection Kit (PPE) was provided for the staff of OTP's to be adorned during screening of nutritional status of 6-59 months children, enrollment of SAM identified children and IYCF guidance to PLWs.

Clear instructions were given by Mr. Zakir to the field staff about washing hands with soap or using sanitizer prior to putting on the face mask. Additional tips were also given about removing the mask and disposing it off properly in a closed bin. Use of gowns and goggles was also emphasized to the staff.

Such training sessions are being held across all districts to provide necessary guidance to the OTP staff. In the face of the global pandemic Covid-19, importance of provision of nutrition services has increased manifold and despite all the challenges to their own health, PPHI Sindh staff is still delivering efficiently on the frontlines.
