PPHI Sindh signed an MoU with Sindh Institute of Ophthalmology and Visual Health Sciences (SIOVS)


PPHI Sindh signed an MoU with Sindh Institute of Ophthalmology and Visual Health Sciences (SIOVS) regarding the clinical and research collaboration between the two organizations on 2 September 2020 at the Regional Office, Hyderabad.

The document was duly endorsed with the signatures of Chief Executive Officer PPHI Sindh, Mr. Abdul Wahab Soomro and the Executive Director of SIOVS, Prof. Dr Khalid Iqbal Talpur.

Under the MoU, PPHI Sindh and SIOVS build the capacity of PPHI Healthcare Workers (basic to advance even that is extended to the clinical attachment). SIVOS will tailor a standard treatment guideline (minimizing the eye health gap at PHC level) including redefined minimum ophthalmology service delivery package, effective referral linkage for advance management, overhauling of the existing ophthalmology units in Bhit Shah and Khairpur even further extension.

PPHI Sindh will provide project-based support for community-based PHC component to SIOVS and help them in holding free eye camps across the province. In addition to it, the two will partner in eye health-related research as well.

About SIOVS - Sindh Institute of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences (SIOVS) is one of the major research institutes in Pakistan established through an act of Provincial Assembly of Sindh by upgrading its status from Liaquat University Eye Hospital Hyderabad to SIOVS. It is only the institute in Pakistan that had established through the assembly act which offers teaching, training, and clinical services in the field of Ophthalmology. A tertiary care undergraduate and postgraduate institute fully equipped with state of the art machines and highly qualified faculty work in collaboration with Government of Sindh, Fred Hollow's Foundation Australia and Sight Savers International (UK).
